Melissa boys, girls cross country teams advance to regionals

Senior Abi Bass sets the pace early in the 5A District 13 meet held Oct. 11 at Myers Park in McKinney. Bass finished in second place and led her team to qualify for regionals with a third place finish.

Both the varsity girls and boys teams finished in third place at the 5A District 13 Cross Country Meet held Oct. 11 at Myers Park in McKinney. Both teams will now advance to the regional championship on Oct. 25 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.

Senior Abi Bass, who was the 4A state gold medalist, continues to outrun most of her competitors. Bass finished in second place at the district meet, narrowly missing first place by two seconds.

Leading the varsity boys team, junior Adams Odhiambo finished in eighth place.

The girls coach is Zachary Hernandez, and Kelley Pitzer is the boys coach.
