Polio seems to have been a forgotten disease thanks to the technological development in medicine and vaccines; however, the first case of polio in nearly a decade has popped up in Rockland County, New York.

The case began with an unvaccinated adult man, and it is believed the disease was spread from the oral vaccine, which is not administered inside the United States. Due to this, it is believed the unidentified man acquired the disease outside of the US.

Rockland County executives say the individual is no longer contagious and are working to find anyone exposed to contain the disease. However, vaccinated individuals should not be concerned, and a large outbreak is unlikely.
