Cardinal Update

  • Staff Development Day: There will be no school for students on Monday, Feb. 20 as it is a professional development day for staff.
  • Choir UIL Showcase: The Choir UIL Showcase will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Melissa Arts Center. This concert will feature music from the UIL State Solo Qualifiers and the very first Mixed Choir to compete at UIL in Melissa. Make plans to attend! Admission is FREE.
  • ASVAB: Melissa High School will be hosting the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) on Thursday, March 2. Ms. Vega will be sending the sign up link to all sophomores, juniors and seniors, so students should watch their email. The deadline to register is Tuesday, Feb. 28.
  • SENIOR ADs for the 2023 yearbook are now on sale! Parents/guardians will build and purchase the ADs through Herff Jones’ site: YearbookOrderCenter.com. Space is limited, so don’t delay–buy an ad today! The deadline is March 1.
  • JUNIORS: Ms. Stover emailed information about the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA), which is a nationally recognized summercamp-style opportunity for you to “develop leadership skills through teamwork, motivation and communication while emphasizing your particular strengths.” The camp is FREE, but you must complete an application and an interview.   • SCHOLARSHIPS: Seniors, visit the MHS scholarships page frequently to earn money for college and even vocational training.
  • Congratulations to Carson Butler, who won CADY Photography’s scholarship for Texas. Click here to view his snapshot story on CADY.com.
  • Bad Weather Make-up Days: Since school closed four days during the week of Jan. 30 for inclement weather, school will now be in session on Monday, March 27, and Wednesday, May 24, with normal hours. The district expects to receive a waiver from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to exempt Melissa Schools from making up any additional missed school days. The last day of school will now be Thursday, May 25, and will be an Early Release Day. Click here for more information.

  • 2023-2024 District Calendar: The district calendar for next school year has been released and published to the district website.
