New ‘Tom and Jerry’ movie hits theaters

Is it worth the watch?

The Tom and Jerry live action movie hit theaters Feb. 26. Fans of the beloved animated enemies were thrilled and curious to see how Hollywood would maintain the love for Tom and Jerry while bringing in new characters. The 2021 version seemed to be focused around new characters rather than the animated animals.

The movie introduces us to a new setting. Rather than the house we all know and love, the story takes place in a Royal Gate Hotel. The cat, Tom, and mouse, Jerry, find themselves meeting while pursuing different paths. If you grew up watching the classic cartoon, you can imagine just how much destruction took place after that moment. When Jerry finds himself a new home at the luxury hotel, Tom is jealous and wonders what he can do to take Jerry’s newfound happiness away. The movie is overall about how these two find each other, make a mess, become friends, and then learn to work together to help a friend out.

Yes, you’ll see flying cats, huge diamond rings and find out who the elephant in the room is, but will viewers love it just as much as the 1940s version? I think so. Once I got to the theater, I was excited to see these two back in action. While sitting in my seat, waiting for the two to start making a mess of things, I was able to enjoy seeing old characters I didn’t think I was going to see.

The movie not only made me laugh but cry. You’re probably questioning why I would cry during a Tom and Jerry movie, however, the story line is so sweet and well thought out you almost want to be there to give a character a hug.

This movie in my opinion is definitely one worth watching. So, if you’re not sure what to do on the weekend, I recommend heading to the theater.
