Melissa Theatre’s fall production of “Nice Work If You Can Get It” received five Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Award (HSMTA) nominations on April 11.

Broadway Dallas (formerly Dallas Summer Musical) “is the preeminent nonprofit presenter of Broadway theater, musicals, and concerts in North Texas.” The name was changed to Broadway Dallas this year due to the investment in educational programs and community partnerships, according to the organization’s press release; this correlates to better reflect the non-profit organization’s core mission.

“We changed our name from Dallas Summer Musicals to Broadway Dallas to accurately capture who we are and what we do,” Ken Novice, president and CEO of Broadway Dallas, said.

Since the musical ran its course in the fall of 2021, Broadway Dallas judges have nominated Melissa High School for Best Lighting Design, Best Choreography, and Best Costumes. Individual awards include Outstanding Lead Performer: senior Logan Lowery, and Outstanding Supporting Performer: senior Mattie McGrady.

On June 11, the cast and crew will find out if they win any of these nominations at the Dallas Broadway HSMTA. The top two performers will also win the ultimate reward: an all-expense paid trip to New York City with a chance to perform in front of hundreds on stage.
