[Opinion] Cardinals can stay busy in summer with fun activities

Abbie Chaloupka, Co-Editor-in-Chief

With only a few more school days left, summer is approaching quickly. Here are a few ideas to keep yourself busy for the next three months.

Camping

Camping is an excellent pastime in the summer months. You could go to a campsite–true camping style–or set up a tent in your backyard and spend the night with friends for a cheaper option. Camping is a great way to bond with your friends and family.

Summer Snacks

There are many recipes that are perfect for the summer to keep cool. Watermelon is a great treat to stay cool and hydrated, but you can take it one step further by making watermelon popsicles. While watermelons are a summer classic, you can replace them with your fruit of choice to make the perfect hot day snack.

Swimming

Swimming is a great way to stay cool and get some exercise in the hot months. You could head to your local lake or pond to swim and maybe even boat, but if that is not possible for you, most neighborhoods have a swimming pool, or you could find a friend with a pool and go swimming.

Day trips

Many local events are happening in the summer that you and your friends or family can participate in. For example, Six Flags is open almost every day in the summer. Downtown McKinney also has a lot of events in the summer that also help support local businesses. Additionally, you could go to Stonebriar Mall, the Allen Outlets, or Legacy West to go shopping.

Movie Night

A great multifaceted activity is movie night. You could set up a projector outside and invite some friends over to have an outdoor movie night. You could also go to a drive-in movie with a few friends at the Coyote Drive-In. Or you could take the more traditional route and go to the movie theater or watch in your house.
