The Senate is trying to pass a bill called Senate Bill 14. This bill would ban therapies that major medical groups recommend for kids and teens with gender dysphoria, which is “a sense of unease that a person may have because of a mismatch between their biological sex and their gender identity.”

SB 14 would also ban transgender Texans from any form of transition-surgeries on minors even though medical professionals say it’s rare that they are performed on children.

Approximately 60% of teens develop anxiety and or depression and about half of teens attempt suicide due to gender dysphoria. Only an average of one percent regret transitioning.

This bill would also block puberty blockers for trans people.

“For children at this age and stage of development, puberty-blocking medications are an option,” Reuters said.

These medications prevent puberty from happening in a person.

“Puberty’s physical changes can cause intense distress for many gender-nonconforming adolescents. When taken regularly, GnRH analogues suppress the body’s release of sex hormones, including testosterone and estrogen, during puberty,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
