Harry Mckillop Elementary and Melissa Ridge Intermediate School had their annual fall carnival this past weekend to raise money for both campuses.

Connie Thompson was in charge of all the festivities. This year more than 90 teachers volunteered, along with a large list of parents from the PTO and PTSO. Connie predicted more than 120 volunteers were there to support the school that day.

“The reason behind the carnival is to raise money for schools, so we can give the teachers grants to buy items for their classrooms they would not normally be able to have,” Connie said.

On carnival day all the parents, teachers, and even some students were helping out to make sure the event was a success.

“This is the busiest we have seen it in years, a big portion of that might be because this is the first year that HME and MRI have teamed up to make a huge event. Another contributing factor could be the weather today. Either way, it is definitely more people than we have ever seen, making this event very successful,” Connie said.

The carnival had different booths and rides such as the human hamster ball, spinning tea cups, numerous bounce houses, concessions, silent auction, cake walk, and a rock wall.

“The biggest attraction has to be the human hamster ball, but the bounce houses are always a big hit. For the adults the silent auction is amazing, this year we have really great prizes to bid on,” Connie said

Connie, along with the PTO and PTSO have not started planning for next year, but they know they will definitely have another one. In hopes for an even larger audience to attend.

“ We are excited for the next carnival. There is word of there being 3 elementary schools next year, so the carnival and festivities will be even bigger,” Connie said.
