The app BeReal came out in 2020 but has become very popular these past few months. It’s based on what the user is doing at the moment. This app does not allow filters or editing.

BeReal goes off at the same time worldwide, giving the user just two crucial minutes to take a photo and post. When the app goes off, it activates the user’s front and back cameras, capturing them and their surroundings. While they only have two minutes, they can also take a” late” photo to see their friends’ posts.

BeReal has become especially popular amongst teenagers.

“I believe BeReal is a fun and creative way to show your friends what you’re up to and show people how not boring your life is,” freshman Meadow Manzano said.

BeReal is meant to eliminate the fakeness involved with Instagram and TikTok. It urges people to “be real” and quit the staged photos.

Alexis Barreyat and Kévin Perreau created the app. BeReal is considered to be very safe; while members can friend anyone, they also have the opportunity to decline friend requests. Their posts are also only visible to their friends unless changed in settings.
