Senior Drops Two New Albums
October 20, 2017
Johnathan Hawkins, a senior at Melissa High School, has always had a passion for music and is thrilled that he will be releasing his two albums, The Future Of Yesterday and The Perfect Heartbreak, within the next month.
The albums include all genres of music that he has written. The albums also appeal to people who want something different in a positive way.
“What I am trying to do is create a new sound, because if you are like other people no one is going to want to listen to your music because you are not different,” Hawkins said. “The albums are a mixture of alternative, rap, hip hop, pop, and R&B.”
This album holds a special place in Hawkin’s heart and these are not just any ordinary albums, but they are personal and special to him in various ways.
“This is important because if I do this I can prove to myself that I can do something very well instead of doing things average.” Hawkins said. “The songs include some romance, a song about my mom I wrote the night she visited the hospital, and other personal experiences,”
Hawkins explains this album as being something more real and easier to relate to as an audience, which he believes is rare to find in this generation.
“The people this will appeal to are basically looking for something real, that doesn’t just say, ‘yeah’ ‘hey’ ‘yeah’ in the songs,” Hawkins said. “I am really trying to say something and connect to people based on my experiences. Most popular songs are only about sex, drugs, violence and stuff.”
Hawkins had wanted to write these albums for quite some time and the idea came to him when he performed “Bad Things” by Camila Cabello and Machine Gun Kelly at a choir concert last year.
“When I really decided to make these albums is when I performed at Coffee House,” Hawkins said, ” and tons of people kept coming up to me and complimenting me, and I was like I should do it. I started working on it in March, but I got discouraged because some people were not liking it, however I eventually started picking back up on it.”
These songs are going to be out on soundcloud and Itunes for free.
“I am trying to get signed by a studio in Dallas so if that happens I’ll get these on the radio, Hawkins said. Hopefully someone will hear it and enjoy it. I would really love to do this as a career.”
