Cardinal Brief: Nov. 21 – Dec. 2

The Cardinals run out prior to their bi-district game against Hallsville on Nov. 11. This was their final home game in Cardinal Stadium. Melissa won 57-20 to advance to the area round of playoffs against Ennis on Nov. 18 at Wildcat-Ram Stadium in Dallas.

Cardinal Update

  • There will be early release Friday Dec. 2. Students will be released at 1:15 p.m.
  • A Holiday Movie Night will be held in the MAC on Dec. 5. Students are encourages to wear festive pajamas. snacks and hot cocoa will be provided before the movie starts.
  • Thanksgiving Break: Melissa Schools will be closed the week of Nov. 21-25.
  • Food Drive Results: The high school had the most contributions to the food drive districtwide. Way to go! Mrs. Kennedy’s classes earned the win with almost 400 cans. Runner up was Mrs. Fox’s classes with approximately 150 items. Thank you to all the students and teachers involved. Donations are still being accepted at First Baptist Melissa.
  • Cardinal Commendations: Congratulations to sophomore Camden Sarrett and freshman Gisselle Luna for being recognized at the Nov. 14 board meeting. Staff members Amy Tyner and Katie Maclea were also recognized.

  • Heart for the Arts: Join the fine arts department Dec. 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. They will have crafts, face painting, carolling, Christmas jazz music, storybook presentations, visits with Santa, food trucks, and much more. The elementary schools will each be performing Christmas numbers, as well.
  • Semester exams will be held from December 8 – 16 during regular class times even though the fall semester doesn’t officially end until Jan. 13, 2023. Click here for more information and to view the schedule.
  • SENIOR ADs for the 2023 yearbook are now on sale! Parents/guardians will build and purchase the ADs through Herff Jones’ site: YearbookOrderCenter.com.
  • Seniors: There is a scholarship opportunity for students that participate in UIL Athletics, Music, or Academics. Please click here to see if you are eligible and apply by the Feb. 3 deadline.
  • Juniors: The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the US.
