Teacher spotlight: Ms. Fortune
January 11, 2023
Ashley Fortune is one of the high school’s art teachers. Most everything a student needs to know about art can be answered by Mrs. Fortune.
“I do Art 1, Art 2 Sculpture, Art 3 Sculpture, Art 2 2D Design, Art 3 2D Design,” Fortune said.
Fortune originally didn’t feel called to be a teacher. However, she loves art and doesn’t regret the choice of going to school to learn to teach because she loves it now.
“I didn’t always want to be a teacher,” Fortune said. “I went to school for art, so I got that degree, and then I was going to go back to the United States and I was sitting there praying like, ‘God, what do you want me to do when I get back to the States? I’ll do anything. I handled a lot over here. I can do anything over there.’ And He said, ‘I want you to be a teacher.’ I was like, ‘Wait, no, anything except for that!’ But finally I did not argue with the Lord, but I did heavily pray about it before I came back, but I don’t regret it now.”
Mrs. Fortune has adapted to her role as a teacher and enjoys the decision she made to enter the field.
