Stomp on Drugs
October 24, 2017
Red Ribbon Week is being held from Oct. 23 through Oct. 27.
Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in the month of October. Established in 1980, The Red Ribbon Campaign is a non-profit organization trying to support and lead the nation to a healthy drug free youth.
“Red Ribbon Week is important because it is a pledge to stay drug free and and it gets the students involved in fun dress up days,” Student Council President, Leah Tyner said.
It is a week when students, teachers, and other staff members dress up each day to a certain theme and/or compete in fun activities to remind them to stay drug free.
“This year the dress up days are tacky tourist day on Monday, sports day on Tuesday, college day on Wednesday, neon day on Thursday, and finally western day on Friday,” Leah said.
The Red Ribbon Campaign encourages all to check out their website, take the drug free pledge, and enter photo contest on the website http://redribbon.org/ This year the organization is giving away an iPad and $1000 to the school with the best dress up themes.
“I definitely plan on pledging it to myself,” Leah said.
