Cristiano Ronaldo, known by many to be the greatest football (soccer) player, shocked the world when he announced his move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

“History in the making,” the Saudi Club said. “This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves. Welcome, Cristiano, to your new home.”

Ronaldo, who once prided himself for following passion over money, has backtracked by making history for the most lucrative deal in football history. The deal consists of a salary close to €200 million per year or until June 25, 2025.

“This deal is more than just writing a new historical chapter,” Al-Nassr Chairman Musalli Al-Muammar said. “This player is a higher example for all athletes and youth in the world, and with his presence in Al-Nassr, we will move forward to achieve more success for the club, Saudi sports, and future generations.”

Many fans around the globe are divided in their opinion by his move. Some are angry and disappointed that Ronaldo might have just ruined his legacy by moving to Al-Nassr, while others are simply there to enjoy the legend’s endeavors.

“Ronaldo has signed for one of the best clubs in Saudi Arabia, but it’s a challenge,” Xavi Crues, Barcelona legend turned coach, said.

Many express their doubts on his decisions, but many point out his obvious happiness in this move. Fans on both sides of the spectrum seem to have found a middle ground in knowing that Cristiano Ronaldo, after the difficult past year, seems to be at peace.

The events that caused the unexpected move can be traced back to Old Trafford aka Manchester United. Ronaldo had many issues at Manchester United and the conflicts between the two caused an explosive interview on the “Piers Morgan Show.” In the interview Cristiano Ronaldo publicly announced his unhappiness with the club.

“Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early,” Ronaldo said. “I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.”

Ronaldo will arrive in Saudi Arabia with a vast collection of club honors after a glittering spell at Spanish giant’s Real Madrid from 2009-18, where he won two La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups, four Champions League titles and three Club World Cups.

Fans anticipate his performance in the new country. His debut for Al-Nassr is planned to be on Jan.22.
