Volleyball Girls Win District
November 2, 2017
The volleyball team beat Celina in their match to decide the district champions on Oct. 27. The girls won after a long tiring match.
“The win against Celina took 2 hours and 30 minutes. After losing sets 1 and 2, our biggest hurdle was thinking we could still win. Our practices are physically and emotionally draining to prepare us for that type of match,” Coach DePaolo said.
As the team is preparing to make it to state, practice is the only thing they know.
“We practice ten hours a week, along with 2-3 matches a week,” DePaolo said.
The thing Coach DePaolo is most excited for is just the feeling of accomplishment.
“The opportunity to accomplish a program first – make it to state. We have an opportunity. We just need to stay focused all play to our potential. The playoffs are full of teams with potential, very few rise to that potential. Those that are willing to work are the ones that make it happen,” DePaolo said.
The only thing the team is worried about is injury. Coach DePaolo is hoping for a injuryless games and lots of wins.
“The biggest worry would have to be a major injury. You can prepare for anything but injuries. What we can do though is make sure all backups get court time in practice and games so they are prepared in case they are needed,” DePaolo said.
The girls won their first playoff game on Tuesday Oct. 31 and their next game is on Thursday, Nov. 2.
