The Melissa Debate Team traveled to Grapevine and Princeton Sept. 8-9. These were the first away tournaments of the season. Melissa took 16 students in total for competition, eight to Princeton and eight to Grapevine.
At Princeton, senior Andrew Nager placed third in International Extemp and is now Texas Forensic Association (TFA) state-qualified in March. Lillian Nabors, sophomore, made it to semifinals in the same event. Junior Joshua Fine placed third in Lincoln-Douglas debate and is now TFA state-qualified as well.
At Grapevine, a national tournament, sophomore Pradnya Chakka advanced to semi-finals in Congressional Debate. Sarah Orejuela, junior, placed sixth in Domestic Extemp, earning a Tournament of Champions (TOC) bid to the University of Kentucky tournament in April.
