How to Survive Semester Exams

Carly Maisel, Editor in Chief

Semester exams are Wednesday, Jan. 17- Friday, Jan 19.
Most teachers have established what the exam will be and began reviewing already. This semester all students are required to take all of the exams; no exemptions. Here are some tips to help keep sane during exam week.
Make a schedule. This seems basic, but it can be incredibly helpful to know for sure what’s happening when. Lists can help reduce stress by removing the need to worry or wonder about what you need to do.
Take breaks. Sometimes, the best thing when feeling frustrated and overwhelmed is to walk away for a little bit. It might be surprising by how re-energizing getting away can be.
Sleep. Students are probably able to get more done in the morning after a good night’s rest, anyway. Sleeping will help maintain focus while testing.
Partner up. If you can focus on work, studying with friends can be helpful. Research done by Michael Milone, Ph.D., has shown that self quizzing before a test is one of the more effective ways of retaining information.
Look at old assignments. Going over old quizzes, midterms and papers can help raise awareness of what to avoid doing, or what areas need brushing up. This can be way more helpful than just reading over all of the notes taken during the semester while giving direction and assisting in avoiding making the same mistake twice.
Prioritize. When feeling completely overwhelmed by what has to be done, try making an assessment and decide what needs the most time.
