Even though MHS doesn’t have a swimming pool, three students represented MHS at the 5A UIL district swim meet on Jan. 26 at the Prosper Natatorium. All three Cardinals advanced to the regional meet: freshman Everett Bell, sophomore Maxim Smirnov and junior Abiel Torres.
Competing across a variety of events, Bell excelled in the boys 50-yard freestyle, securing first place with a time of 23.50 and contributing nine points to the team. In the same event, Smirnov and Torres claimed the 4th and 5th spots, collectively adding another 9 points to the team’s total.
Bell also took on the boys 100-yard freestyle, placing second and contributing seven team points.
Torres competed in the boys 100-yard butterfly, securing second place and earning another seven team points.
In the boys 100-yard breaststroke, Smirnov finished in second place, adding another seven points to the team’s total.
The small team of three ended the competition in fourth place overall in the bracket with a total of 39 points. All three boys advanced in one or more events to the UIL regional swim meet, which will be held Feb. 9-10 at New Caney ISD.
