Eight Career and Technical Education (CTE) students competed at the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Regional Conference on Feb. 15-17 in Waco. Students entered projects in different categories and took assessments to test their skills. All eight students advanced to the state competition, which will be held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas April 12-14.
Kinsley Essary and Michelle Grant earned third place in the Fashion Design category for their elegant and comfortable dress design and presentation. Leah Sabo, Finley Haslam, and Kassandra Mojica presented the vintage purse they made, earning 3rd place in the Repurpose and Redesign category. Mariah Judkins designed a Professional Presentation over Mental Health, which placed fourth in its category.
Students also competed in Family Consumer Science Assessments. Five students earned a medal and qualified for state with their individual scores: Minnah Badruddin, Michelle Grant, Kassandra Mojica, Ellen Remigio, and Leah Sabo.
FCCLA is a new organization at Melissa High School this school year. Club sponsors are CTE Fashion Design teacher Amy Klein and CTE Child Development teacher Stacie Entzminger.
