The girls golf team participated in the District 11-4A golf tournament Monday and Tuesday in Gunter, where they earned a district champion title.

“To say I am happy would be an understatement,” Coach Chris Tyner said. “These athletes set a goal at the beginning of the year to be district champions and they did that this week and for the girls to win our tenth consecutive district title; that means the world to me.”

The girls won their tenth straight district title, shooting 382 on Monday and 401 on Tuesday, finishing ahead of Princeton by 89 shots. Leah Tyner won her second straight title as district champion, shooting 88-88 for a two-day total of 176 in a close match-up. Lindsay Bauslaugh qualified as a medalist.

“Creating a legacy is hard to do especially in a difficult game called golf. Conditions were less than desirable both days but we battled through the elements and came out on top.” Tyner said.

The teams advance to the regional tournament the week of April 23 at Van Zandt Country Club in Canton.

“We plan on going to Canton not only represent our district but to make a run at another state appearance. Super proud of all the Melissa golfers,” Tyner said.
