Taylor Swift released her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” on April 19, following the end of her six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn and the start of her new, budding romance with NFL football star Travis Kelce. The album consists of 16 songs that reflect at least one aspect of the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. After the album’s initial release, Swift dropped “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” which includes 15 additional songs produced primarily by Aaron Dessner.
The album is most comparable to both “Midnights” and “Folklore,” as it contains many synth-pop tunes, as well as a handful of stripped-back acoustic pieces. However, the album’s first single is track number one: “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. Swift even directed a music video for the single, featuring actors such as Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, who starred in the 1989 movie “Dead Poets Society.”
“The Tortured Poets Departments” has broken several records within the first two weeks of its release. For one, it became the fastest album to hit one billion streams on Spotify within the first week of its release, as well as Spotify’s most pre-saved countdown.
As Swift prepares to resume her “Eras Tour” in Paris, France, fans cannot help but speculate whether or not she will integrate songs from her new album into the show. Only time will tell for Swift, who seems to have taken the music industry by storm once again.
