The Student Council plays an important role in creating and keeping up with school spirit.
“Our student council is essential in building school spirit,” Student Council adviser Michelle Moore said. “Through promoting student involvement, organizing events, and leading by example, they cultivate a sense of pride and unity that strengthens our school community.”
As leaders of the student body, they plan and execute events and themes that bring the school community together by showing their support. From organizing Homecoming week to putting together pep rallies and spirit days, the organization makes sure that Cardinal Pride is alive and felt throughout the halls at Melissa High.
One of the highlights of the year is Dress-Up days, when students get the chance to show off their creativity and school spirit in the hallways or at athletic games. Listed below are the themes chosen for a couple of the fall sports:

These themed days bring students together and give everyone a chance to participate, regardless of grade level or background.
For many students, these events are more than just fun activities; they are key moments in their high school experience. Participating in spirit days, rallies, and other events allows students to make memories, connect with classmates, and feel a part of something bigger than themselves.
The impact goes beyond individual participation. Through shared experiences, Cardinal pride adds to a more positive and welcoming environment.
“These students are not just there to watch the game but they are involved to be a part of the game and to give their support anyway they can,” head football coach Matt Nally said. “I think it’s a huge deal for the overall players to get an opportunity to see their peers supporting them and what they are trying to accomplish. The people in the student section are just as much a part of the game as the players.”
It gives students an opportunity to connect with others, show their school spirit and take pride in being a part of something bigger than themselves.
Looking into the future, the Student Council has big plans to keep Cardinal Pride going strong.
“By empowering our students to serve as Cardinal ambassadors, we’re instilling the values of mentorship and community service,” Moore said.” This is how we cultivate leaders who prioritize service over self.”
The council is already hard at work planning new events for Melissa High School. Students can expect more exciting opportunities to come together as a community throughout the year.
Cardinal Pride at Melissa High School is more than just a tradition–it’s a way of life. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Student Council, students have so many opportunities to participate in their school’s community and create lasting memories. As the year unfolds, the Student Council invites every Cardinal to get involved and help keep the Cardinal Spirit alive.
