With summer coming to a close, many are ready for the new shows and movies coming out for the holiday season, such as “Moana 2,” “Wicked,” “Gladiator II,” the third “Venom” movie, and more. However, viewers are upset with Disney because of their choice of budget cuts and the decrease in episodes.
A recent hit show, “The Owl House,” has its audience captivated with its beautiful scenery, easy-to-follow storyline, fascinating lore, and an LGBTQ+ relationship. This show has proven successful for Disney, but only after they ended it a whole season early. The final season of three, 45-minute episodes, was used to conclude the story quickly, instead of continuing with the fourth season. Disney decided to cut the show early due to financial reasons. Many believe this was not a fair choice, considering other shows that do not attract as much attention are still running. However, the idea that there were other reasons it was shut down still presents itself, with a few suspected reasons including the show not being an early success and the relationship between the two main characters.
According to the official Reddit post on the r/TheOwlHouse channel, the show was closed for financial and brand reasons. When COVID hit, Dana Terrace, a member of the Disney crew, said, “…every show had to tighten their belts.” Multiple shows had episodes cut around the entire studio. Still, “The Owl House” “…had taken the biggest bullet.” They were cut for season three and weren’t given an option for a season four after parks reopened. Dana also said that the second argument was at fault as well. “Our ratings were GOOD (for a Channel during the streaming wars lmao) but they were also incomplete…how are you going to judge ratings when you don’t rerun the show you’re trying to measure?” As stated by the post, many believed it to be the ratings, but the ratings were good for the show and many considered it well-streamed. It was eventually told that the reason for canceling was the audience skewed a little older and didn’t fit the Disney Channel’s target audience. The post said that it was not a large group that chose this, but one person on the panel.
Now, even though the show came to a short end, numerous other shows are still available to be streamed! Recommendations include “The Ghost and Molly McGee” and “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,” both currently streaming on Disney Channel and Disney+. Many other movies are also coming out including “Frozen 3,” “Snow White – Live Action,” “Zootopia 2,” “Lilo and Stitch – Live Action,” “Toy Story 5,” “Elio,” and many more for viewers to enjoy and love in the future.
