Cardinal Update
- CONGRATULATIONS to choir member Sophia Martinez, who auditioned and was selected to perform with the National Choir. Sophia was one of the few selected from the entire Nation. She will represent Melissa in the spring at the national convention. This is a first in Melissa school history.
- TRUNK OR TREAT: FCA will host its annual Trunk or Treat event in the band parking lot on Oct. 30 from 6-8 p.m. Click HERE for the sign up sheet if your club or organization would like to sponsor a booth.
- STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY: There will be no school for students on Friday, Nov. 1, as the staff participates in professional development.
- TOY DRIVE: HOSA students are hosting a Toys for Tots toy drive on Friday, Nov. 1, during the final regular-season home football game against Walnut Grove. Fans are encouraged to show their Cardinal Spirit by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the game. Collection boxes will be available at the entrances to Coach Kenny Deel Stadium. 1836863. - STUDENT ATHLETES: The NCAA Eligibility Center will host a free webinar for students and families on Nov. 3, from 6-7 p.m. EST. If interested in learning about what it takes to compete at the next level, click HERE to register.
- DRILL TEAM: Melissa High School will have its very own drill team beginning next school year! Tryouts for the Ruby Belles Drill Team will be this January, and current 8th-11th grade students will be eligible to audition. If you would like to learn more about Ruby Belles, there will be an Interest Meeting on Monday, Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union.
- MELISSA THEATRE: Tickets for “9 to 5: The Musical” are now on sale for performances that will run Nov. 12-16. Visit www.melissaisd.org/theatre to purchase tickets.
- SENIOR PORTRAITS: CADY Photography will return to campus on Nov. 20 for Senior Portraits. All seniors must be photographed by CADY to be featured in the yearbook. There is no sitting fee for the “Yearbook Only” option and no obligation to purchase. Click HERE to make an appointment. The final deadline to be photographed on campus or in studio is Jan. 18, 2025.
- SENIOR ADS: Parents/guardians who would like to place a tribute to their graduate in the 2025 Yearbook can design and purchase an ad online at yearbookordercenter.com. The deadline is Nov. 30. Click HERE for more info. Contact [email protected] with questions.
- DRIVER’S ED: The next Driver’s Ed class will begin Dec. 4. Sign-up in the front office. Also, Parkway Driving School is now providing driving tests. If you are interested in this option you can contact Coach Williams (phone # 214-668-3749).
- CARDINAL CHRONICLES: The art department is seeking submissions for their upcoming publication “Cardinal Chronicles.” This is a magazine of student work that includes writing pieces (poetry, short stories, essays, etc.), artwork, and fashion designs. This is an excellent opportunity for students to have work recognized and appreciated by peers and the wider community. If interested in submitting work, please fill out the Magazine Submission Form by March 7, 2025.
- BUS RIDERS: All students who ride a bus to/from school must have a bus pass.
- MEF ‘CRAZY FOR CARDS’ PARTY ON THE PATIO: The Melissa Education Foundation (MEF) has launched their annual “Crazy for Cards” fundraising campaign in support of Melissa ISD student scholarships and teacher grants. Members of the community who donate $35 between now and Oct. 26 will receive a “Crazy for Cards” yard sign. Donors who give $200 or more can receive a sign plus meal tickets to the Party on the Patio on Saturday, Oct. 26 at The DougOut Sports Grill. - FENTANYL POISONING AWARENESS MONTH: October is Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month, established to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and the risk of accidental poisoning. In support of this initiative, we are focusing on educating our students and families about the threat posed by fentanyl-laced drugs, which are often undetectable without testing. Through the “One Pill Kills” campaign and other prevention efforts, we aim to empower our community with the knowledge to recognize, prevent, and reverse fentanyl poisonings.
