Top Critic Mary Z voted three out of five stars on Oct. 17.
“I enjoyed the parts of the movie that were or related to the original,” Mary said. “But the rest was just nonsensical filler and at times disturbing.”
Top Critic MontiLee Stormer voted three out of five stars on Oct. 3.
“It’s really messy, but – and maybe this is my nostalgia speaking – I think it works. I liked the breadcrumb callbacks, Lydia reduced to shy people-pleasing,” Stormer said. “ I really liked the super dark tertiary story that becomes integral to the final third act.”
Top Critic Jocelyn Noveck voted three out of four stars on Oct. 20.
“For once, the question ‘Why a sequel?’ is moot,” Noveck said. “Not because we know the answer. (Do we?) But, who cares? It’s funny. It may even make you feel better about, well, death.”
From All Audience, Topp C voted one and one half stars out of five on Oct. 17.
“Too many storylines going on at once,” Topp said. “They all lose their punch.”
From All Audience, Ann voted four out of five stars on Oct. 17.
“Really campy but funny and sweet,” Ann said. “Acting was good, story was basic. Had a really good time and lots of laughing in the theater.”
From All Audience, Richard voted four and a half out of five stars on Oct. 24.
“Despite coming out over 30 years after the original, this sequel doesn’t miss a beat! Just about everyone is back, and it feels like seamlessly stepping back into Tim Burton’s world. Michael Keaton is on point, Winona Ryder is excellent, and newcomer Jenna Ortega fits right in as the newest Deetz family member,” Richard said. “The story is engaging with fun cameos and nods to the original, with plenty of fresh elements to keep the plot humming along. The only gripe is that it actually could’ve been longer! It felt like there was so much to cover and not everything got as much time as it could’ve. But when the biggest downside is wanting more, that’s a sign the movie is a good one, and this is definitely a very good movie. A truly worthy sequel!”
