Homecoming week was held Oct. 15-19. The festivities included dress up days, the annual parade and pep rally, the coronation of the king and queen, the varsity football game, and finally the dance.
The week kicked off with dress up days at Melissa Schools. Every day of the week had a different theme. Tuesday was movie star or celebrity day, Wednesday was boots vs. blazers or cowboy vs country club day, Thursday was decades day, and Friday was “red out.” Students could wear their mums and garters to school on Friday.
The annual parade took place on Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. There were 50 floats total competing for the best decorated float. Out of all of the entries, the boys varsity basketball team won first place with their parade entry called “Kings of the Court.”
Immediately following the parade, the community gathered inside Coach Kenny Deel Stadium for a pep rally. After playing the annual heads or tails game, the homecoming prince and princess and the 12 senior nominees were presented. The nominees played a game of “Head, Knees and Cup,” the cheerleaders performed a yell with their dads, and everyone participated in the “Big Boom.”
Prior to the football game on Oct. 18, the homecoming court and prince and princess were presented on the field. Seniors Kaden Isowe and Rennice Kerebi were crowned as the 2024 King and Queen. The other king nominees this year were Jacob Young, Jake Potucek, Jacob Wasserman, Logan Venner, and Grayson Dalby. The other queen nominees were Luci Davis, Emma Cannaday, Sanaa Ferguson, Valeria Velazquez, and Melody Gallo. This year’s prince was Jameson Ille from North Creek Elementary, and the princess was Harper Cheung from Sumeer Elementary.
Kickoff for the varsity game started at 7:30 p.m. The Cardinals faced the Frisco Independence Knights and won easily with a final score of 75-6. The theme for the football game was Red Out.
The week’s festivities concluded on Saturday with a “Hollywood Homecoming” themed dance. The student council decorated the gym where the dance was held from 7 to 10 p.m.
