The Cardinal Swim Team isn’t large, but it is mighty! All three swimmers showcased their skill at the 5A UIL Regional Swim Meet on Jan. 24, at the Prosper Natatorium, with one athlete earning a spot at the state competition for the first time in MISD history!
Junior Maxim Smirnov delivered a standout performance, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.09, securing his qualification for the 5A UIL State Swim Meet on Feb. 21-22, at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas in Austin.
Sophomore Everett Bell impressed in multiple events, finishing fourth in the boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.45 and seventh in the boys 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.33. Maxim also competed in the 50-yard freestyle, placing 14th with a time of 23.56. Senior Abiel Torres swam in the boys 100-yard butterfly, securing 14th place with a time of 57:97.
