The varsity softball team finished their season undefeated with a current record of 31-0, securing the District Championship. During the game against Prosper Walnut Grove on April 17, they not only won 17-3, but the girls broke the Texas high school softball home run record in one season with 93 home runs. The number to beat was 92, which was originally set by the Lady Cardinals last season in 2024. They are still adding to this number and are currently up to 100! The girls now have a good chance of breaking the national home run record, which stands at 105.
To prepare for playoffs, the girls just recently played Bentonville, the number one team in Arkansas, according to MaxPreps. The Lady Cards were able to gain the win with the final score of 5-3. It was a tough game, but the girls were able to work through it and come out on top. They had great pitching and strategical hits to help them get the win.
The varsity team traveled to Chisum High School in Paris, Texas, for their first playoff series against Texas High School. Game 1 began at 6 p.m. on April 23. They were able to successfully get the win against Texas, 13-1. The girls played a second game at Chisum at 6 p.m. on April 25, and wrapped up the Bi-District Championship with a 12-1 victory. Their next playoff game for Area will be against Frisco Wakeland at Prosper Rockhill at 6 p.m. on May 2. There will be only one game.
The team’s goal is to be 5A State Champions again just like last year. The girls are very confident in their abilities and techniques and believe they will make it all the way to the state championship once again. The Lady Cardinals know it will be hard, but they have been working all season for this.
