A first in the history of Melissa High School, the Color Guard traveled to the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, the first week in April, and they finished second place overall. They secured silver with an astonishing score of 95.115! Their division featured 136 teams, coming from all across the nation.
Their 2025 show, “Someday You’ll Understand,” which can be viewed on YouTube, was a beautifully crafted performance that illustrated how certain situations or experiences may not be immediately understandable or clear, and that understanding why these things happen takes time. The team moved in perfect harmony, showcasing their hard work and powerful emotions that connected deeply with the audience. The Melissa Color Guard aimed not only to display their talent but also to impart a meaningful lesson through their artistry.
Captain Anashe Changa quoted a phrase from her Coach: “Be Selfless, not Selfish,” meaning the dancers should prioritize the team’s goals and emotions over individual glory. Their collaboration proved when everyone works together, they can push through challenges and elevate each other’s skills, which ultimately lead them to their national success.
