MHS Cardinal Student Media Earns Digital Photography Awards at TAJE Fall Conference

Melissa High School Cardinal Student Media attended the Texas Association of Journalism Educators Fall Fiesta conference this past weekend, marking the group’s first time at the statewide event! Students spent the weekend learning from industry professionals and competing in the Digital Photography contest, where they earned top ratings for their work! Melissa High School Hosts Community Trunk or Treat Oct. 25

You’re invited! Join us for a spook-tacular evening at the annual Melissa High School Community Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in the MHS parking lot. The fun kicks off at 3:00 p.m. and wraps up at 5:00 p.m. MHS athletic teams, clubs, and organizations will participate by decorating their trunks, handing out candy, and hosting mini-games for the kids. This event not only brings our community together but also gives our students a chance to give back to the community that supports them. In case of bad weather, the event will be relocated to the Melissa High School gym.

2026-2027 Academic Calendar Now Available

The Melissa ISD academic calendar for the 2026-2027 school year, as recommended by the District Site-Based Decision Committee, has been approved by the Melissa Schools Board of Trustees. Each year, the calendar is re-evaluated and adjusted depending on the dates of certain national holidays, state testing days, graduation dates, and Collin College instruction schedules, as well as required professional learning days for teachers. The District Site-Based Decision Committee, made up of teachers, administrators, parents, and community members, carefully creates the calendar after taking these parameters and numerous other needs and suggestions into consideration. Melissa Madness Basketball Community Event Oct. 29

The Melissa Cardinal boys and girls basketball teams will kick off the 2025-2026 season on Wednesday, October 29, with Melissa Madness! Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. in the Melissa High School Gym. Melissa Madness is a chance for young Cardinals to meet-and-greet players and will feature a live DJ, games and prizes, a performance from the Melissa Cardinal Cheerleaders and the Ruby Belles, and a scrimmage from both basketball teams. Admission is free. It’s a night of hoops, music, and family fun, perfect for Cardinals of all ages. Bring your friends, cheer loud, and get ready to start the season with a bang. Go Cardinals!

Annual Fall Food Drive, October 27 – November 7

Students are encouraged to help make a difference in our community by bringing non-perishable food items and helping to “fill the red bag” in their classroom during our annual Fall Food Drive, October 27 through November 7. All donations will benefit local families in need through the First Melissa Christmas Angel Program and the Melissa Community Outreach Food Pantry. As an added incentive, the homeroom class (or advisory class at the secondary level) at each campus that collects the most items will win a special “Breakfast with Birdie.”

Additionally, community members are encouraged to join in the Food Drive by bringing nonperishable or canned items to “Fill the Bus” on Friday, Nov. 7, at the varsity football game. For a list of suggested donation items, please refer to the flyer.
