The Melissa Cross Country team prepared for district all season long, many of the runners had high aspirations for their upcoming challenge.   The team was not disappointed as they ran at district Thursday and brought home wins.  Varsity boys placed 1st, girls placed 4th.  Team members now look to regionals.

Despite the hopes and wishes of many team members, the 2018 season has been shortened due to rainouts and cancellations. Most runners have been happy to express their feelings on the matter.

“I mean it sucks that we have to reschedule stuff and can’t run races.” Senior Dion Galbreath said. “It’s harsh, but we work out at the track and do our thing to prepare for the next one.”

Even with all of the tribulations, the team has vowed to stay strong and persevere. Their coach has also promised to keep them in prime condition to face district.

“I was disappointed about not being able to race,” Kelley Pitzer, cross-country coach, said. “I think the team will be fine, even though they were not able to race as often as I would have liked. Even though we have had several weather-related setbacks, the attitudes of the runners have stayed strong and everyone has worked hard to achieve their goals.”

Pitzer hopes to repeat and even exceed last year’s cross country results. Many of last years runners hope to match last year’s results as well.

“We’ll sweep it again, as we swept it last year.” Sophomore, Lucas Tauch said. “There’s nothing really to challenge us.”
