The experience of getting to vote for the first time was important for some Melissa High School students who traveled to Melissa City Hall, which was swamped with multi-colored signs, brandishing the name of a various candidates on November 6.

Students spoke on their experience and how they prepared. 

“I like to keep up with political news even though I am not 18,” Senior Travis Bishop said. “Then whenever we are able to vote, we can know enough to make the right choice.”

Students said they felt a surge of responsibility while performing their civil duty.

“Your voice is very important when it comes to big decisions,” Senior Mary Wamalwa said.

While not every student was able to partake in the elections this week, they said they still believe in the importance of elections.

“Even though I’m not 18, I think the election is important.” Junior Avery Fuller said. “Yes, it is important to vote because you have to get someone good in office who can represent everyone.”
