Matt Nally, former offensive coordinator, newly-named head football coach, spoke about his new role and what he hopes to bring to the Cardinal lineup along with his 16-year coaching background.

“I was so honored that Coach Stinton would think of me in that way. It’s a blessing to be in this situation, with a great community, great support, and great kids.” Coach Nally said, who joined the Cardinal coaching staff in 2015, will assume his new role in the spring of 2019. He is not new to coaching, bringing a wide list of coaching experiences.

“I’ve been coaching for 16 years, I coached baseball for 10 of those years, basketball for 12 of those years, track for five, softball and tennis,” Nally said. He started out in a small town in Cayuga, in east Texas. He coached there for three years, then moved to Frankston and coached for nine years, then he settled in Melissa.

Nally, a University of North Texas graduate, along with his coaching experience said he hopes to instill a sense of work ethic and determination with a new acronym B.A.W.A, which means “Bring A Winning Attitude,” Nally said, adding “Melissa’s a gold mine, if the student-athletes and coaches could understand that with their best effort this place could be the Cadillac of North Texas, the ideal school that everyone wants to model themselves after.”

MHS Boys Athletic Director, Seth Stinton, stepped down from his position of head coach but will continue his position as head athletic director.

“Coach Nally will do a fantastic job as our new head football coach, I am extremely happy for him and look forward to watching our football team continue the winning traditions that we have set here”, Coach Stinton said.

Athletes said they are ecstatic about Nally’s new coaching position and are hoping he shall add to the program.

“Coach Nally is a good fit for the position because he brings excitement to the team and that’s what we need from a coach,” said running back, Ja’Bray Young.

The team is very excited about the new opportunities and hope to continue next year with a great season.

“I think it’s very beneficial to the program, I think coach Stinton was doing very well and coach Nally will pick up the job.” said wide receiver, Tyler Burton.
