Students will have the opportunity to take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) on campus on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 8:15 a.m. To secure a seat, see your counselor and sign up with a fee of $17.

“The PSAT is a great opportunity for students to get practice and prepare for the SAT,” counselor Christina Cooper said. “They also provide tools, practice tests, and study techniques for the SAT once results are out.”

The PSAT can offer students interested in signing up for Dual Credit a potential exemption from taking the Texas Success Initiative (TSI).

“Collin College requires students who want to enroll in Dual Credit courses to take the TSI, but your PSAT score can waiver it,” Cooper said.

In addition, the PSAT can put juniors in an entry for the National Merit Scholarship.

“The National Merit Scholar program is a program that identifies students that score in the top 1% in each state,” Cooper said. “If you become a National Merit Finalist, you will have the opportunity to win huge scholarships.”

Cooper suggests sophomores, juniors, and seniors should consider signing up.
