On Feb.1, the MHS Winter Guard made finals for the first time at a Texas WGI (Winter Guard International) regional contest in San Antonio.

At this competition the guard got 15th out of the 28 competitors in South Texas.

“I think we definitely had a very strong start and everyone is improving,” fresh. Hollyn Fleming-Stump, who’s a first-year spinner, said. “This competition was a great achievement for everyone.”

WGI is a big competition that competes internationally.

“Of course, my goal was to win, but at this level of competition making finals is like winning in itself,” Emma Bergin, a soph. and two-year spinner, said.

At the end of the day the team brought home a big achievement for the program.

“It was most of the members’ first competition,” Hollyn said. “It’s a big one. It was a great bonding experience for everyone.”

Coming up, the Guard will be competing on Feb. 21 at Haltom HS. They would love for people to come out and support them.

The guard would like to thank all the guard parents and supporters of the band program for helping out and making their dreams come true.
