The Class of 2021 recently elected 10 seniors to serve as nominees for the 2020 Homecoming Court. The king and queen will be crowned during halftime of the district match between the Cardinals and the Anna Coyotes on Oct. 16 at Cardinal Stadium. Kickoff time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance and go on sale Oct. 14, at 6:00 p.m. No tickets will be sold at the gate. Click here to purchase your homecoming football tickets.

The court will first be presented Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. during the 2020 Homecoming Parade followed by a community-wide pep rally in Cardinal Stadium. Visit the district’s HOCO page for the parade route and additional information.

Queen Nominees

Miss Kadyn King, daughter of Tyson and Jacky King, has been a Cardinal since the 2nd grade. She is the Student Council President, Vice President of Interact Club, and Historian of National Honor Society. She is also involved in the Perspective Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Her art has advanced to the state level of the Visual Arts Scholastic Event two years in a row, and she plans to return this year. She is the Varsity Cheer team manager and part of the Powerlifting team. She also enjoys playing the guitar for her church and being around her four younger siblings. 

She will remember Melissa for the constant sense of community, the teachers and coaches that have impacted her life, and the lifelong friendships she has formed over the years.

After high school, Kadyn plans to attend the University of Arkansas.

Miss Kaylee Lewis, daughter of Frederick and Candace Lewis, has attended Melissa Schools since Pre-K. She is on the track team and is involved with PAALS. 

One thing Kaylee will remember about Melissa is her amazing friends and teachers that have supported her throughout her time here.

After high school, she plans to study Architecture & Interior Design while pursuing her dream of becoming a professional track athlete.

Miss Abbey Maldonado, daughter of Jose and April Maldonado, has been a Cardinal since 6th grade. She is captain of the volleyball team, plays varsity soccer, is the Secretary of National Honor Society, and a member of Interact and the Perspective Club. Abbey is also very involved with her church youth group, teaches Sunday School and speaks at FCA events. 

She will never forget seeing the water tower light up red after a big win and the sense of community that Melissa has. She is forever grateful for the friendships she has made and for all the teachers who have made such an impact on her. 

After high school, she plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin to one day become a speech and language pathologist. 

Miss Tenley Tollefson, daughter of Jacob and Angela Tollefson, has attended Melissa Schools since her freshman year. She is an All American Varsity Cheerleader, is involved in PAALS, Student Council, Interact Club and HOSA. She also helps with the Academy, the after-school program.

Tenley will always remember the passion and drive to perform her best, how welcoming and supporting the staff is, and the atmosphere of family she feels here. Go, Cards!

After graduation she plans to attend the University of North Texas and obtain her bachelor’s degree in nursing and pursue her dream of becoming a neonatal nurse.

Miss Devynna Vela, daughter of Eli and Yvette(E-VET) Vela, has attended Melissa Schools since Pre-K. She is a Drum Major and the Parliamentarian for Student Council. 

Devy will always be thankful for the friendships and experiences she was able to build throughout her high school years.

She plans to attend Oklahoma State University in hopes of becoming a Pediatrician.

King Nominees

Mr. Thaddeus Baker, son of Mark and Melissa Baker, has attended Melissa Schools since 7th grade. He has participated in Theatre, Speech and Debate and the Principal’s Advisory Committee.

Thad will forever be grateful for the community in our schools and our city.

After high school he plans to attend a four year university and major in Acting.

Mr. Parker Jack, son of Kirk and Amy Jack, has been a Cardinal since 6th grade. He plays football and baseball and is the Vice President of PAALS. 

PJ will never forget getting absolutely yoked (stronger/bigger muscles) with the boys in the weight room.  

After high school, he plans on attending the University of Oklahoma to study business.

Mr. Bryce Martin, the son of Mitch and Erin Martin, has attended Melissa Schools since the 7th grade. He plays on the varsity football team, is Vice President of Student Council, and the Secretary of Interact Club. 

He will always remember the memories he made with his friends. 

After high school he plans to attend the University of Arkansas and major in Finance.

Mr. Donald Phillips, son of Mickey Phillips and Rochelle Barnett, has attended Melissa Schools since 6th grade. He served as an athletic trainer for the football and soccer teams, is part of the Young Conservatives of America Club, and is a four-year debate student.  

Donnie will always remember the amazing teachers such as Coach DeLuna, who participated in a stress-inducing week-long game of RISK in his classroom during lunch.

After high school he plans to attend Texas Tech University and major in Political Science and minor in Economics.  

Mr. Connor Sale, son of  Christopher and Samantha Sale, has attended Melissa Schools since 5th grade. He has participated in Band, Speech and Debate, Winterguard, UIL Academics, and National Honor Society. 

He will always remember the friendships that he has made and all the teachers that had a positive impact on his  life, and also Bug of the Week in Professor Harlow’s Dual Credit Environmental Science Class.

After graduation, he plans to attend the University of California Los Angeles to pursue a double major in Political Science and International Relations in order to attend law school and represent the people in Congress.
