Back in April of this year, Taylor Swift released her first re-recorded album: “Fearless: Taylor’s Version,” and as announced in just a few short weeks, “Red: Taylor’s Version” will be accessible to Swifties as well. The question is: why is Taylor re-recording these albums in the first place?

This issue should be thought of as a sort of custody battle between Scooter Braun and Taylor Swift, and the kids are Swift’s first six albums. After gaining control of Big Machine Records, Taylor’s previous record label, Scooter Braun simultaneously gained control of Taylor’s first six albums (out of the seven that had been released as of 2019).

“When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them,” Swift said via her Tumblr account. “Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.”

Long story short, it was a bad time (pun intended) for Swift. The first 13 years of her career and her first six albums seemed to have been written and released all in vain. Other famous artists took to social media in support of Swift, expressing their disgust of the robbery.

“My heart is so heavy right now. It makes me sick and extremely angry,” Selena Gomez said. “I don’t mind if there may be a retaliation. This is my opinion. It’s greed, manipulation and power. There is no heart or thought of anyone else’s. No respect for the words my friend has written since she was 14 years old in her bedroom.”

After letting her fans know that she would be re-recording her first six albums back in August of 2019, plenty of shade has been thrown at Scooter Braun and the others involved in the album-stealing scandal. My advice to you: go watch “The Man” music video. With a mural naming all of her albums in graffiti (excluding “Lover”), and a sign requesting that Swift’s lost albums are to be returned to her immediately, it makes it pretty obvious who this video is dedicated to. And if you couldn’t figure out that “the man” Swift is talking about is Scooter Braun, don’t forget about the sign prohibiting scooters!

Even though all of us Swifties are heartbroken that such a talented woman lost so much because of greedy producers, we are more than happy to support Taylor in this new (but kind of old) path she is going on! Make sure to stream “Red: Taylor’s Version” on November 12!
