The Cardinal Spirit Challenge returns to MHS. A few students have already experienced the Cardinal Cup competition between the grades–juniors and seniors participated during the first part of the 2019-2020 school year; however, they do not know how it ends. Due to COVID-19, the challenges never finished, and a winner wasn’t determined. However, this will be the first full year of the Cardinal Spirit Challenge, which helps students gain school spirit and the full MHS experience.

The Cardinal Cup consists of challenges where each grade level and staff compete head-to-head to win the grand prize at the end of the year–and bragging rights, of course.

Some of these challenges include:

  • Class vs. class games at pep rallies
  • Attendance at “Pack the Gym” or “Pack the Stands” sporting events
  • Food drive and other service events
  • Special competitions created by staff or students
  • Impromptu lunchtime competitions (such as picking up trash or singing the school song)

Points are given throughout the entire year during these activities and will be displayed continuously.

The class that wins will celebrate their victory with a “Full Day Fun Day” on a Monday in May. This “Full Day Fun Day” will include food, entertainment, and activities. This also means that the winning grade will not attend classes on this day.

Friday, May 13, is the biggest day to earn spirit points, and each grade will square off against each other at the “Cardinal Bowl.” This event will be an entire morning of wild competitions and activities.

Students, make sure to look out for unexpected and hidden challenges. Some of these challenges will be hard to identify, so it’s essential to make sure you always show Cardinal spirit and practice MHS core values.
