Every year when Halloween comes around, students scramble to make plans and decide how they will dress up. New movies and trends have surfaced, inspiring students’ costumes or even party themes.

This year, some popular costumes include Harley Quinn in the new “Suicide Squad” movie, Cruella Deville in Disney’s new “Cruella” movie, Black Widow, and even new twists on classic characters.

“My friends and I are doing the characters from ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ and I am the White Rabbit,” senior Brooke Dillashaw said. “We are modernizing our outfits to suggest the characters instead of outright wearing a rabbit costume. I personally love dressing up for Halloween, and it is fun and gives a chance to wear something new and different.”

Some students are having or hosting costume parties on Halloween weekend with their friends.

“[My plans are a] Halloween party with friends,” junior Ella Nye said. “We will carve pumpkins, play games, and watch scary movies. My friend group is going as characters from ‘Alice in Wonderland;’ I am the white queen. It is such a fun chance to do something different and dress up in something you normally wouldn’t wear.”

However, some students have more unconventional plans.

“My Halloween plans are to go to New York and see Harry Styles for ‘Harryween,’” sophomore Josephine Miller said. “I am dressing up as Harry Styles.”

The holiday is an opportunity for many students to express themselves in ways they cannot day to day.

“I think it provides a fun and different outlet that people of all ages can participate in,” senior Brooke Dillashaw said. “You can never be too old to dress up or too young. And you can always find something new and different to do each year. It is my favorite holiday and a perfect time to end October.”
