STUCO to host first Sadie Hawkins Winter CandyLand Dance Dec. 4

Melissaisd.org

The first Melissa High School Sadie Hawkins Dance will take place on Dec. 4. The dance will be held in the Student Union from 8:30-11 p.m. with a Winter CandyLand theme. (For those who don’t know, a Sadie Hawkins dance is where the girls ask guys to the dance.)

Tickets for the dance went on sale Nov. 10 for $25 each–cash or check only. Students can still purchase tickets during MegaLunch in Mrs. Tyner’s classroom A124 or the Student Union. Students must remember that there is a limited number of tickets being sold and no outside guests are allowed. Tickets will be sold until Dec. 2. Light snacks, water, and hot cocoa will be provided at the dance.

“The theme is a fun way to decorate and incorporate the food,” Student Council sponsor Amy Tyner said. “This year’s dance is already different because we have never had a dance in December or a Sadie Hawkins [dance].”

This Sadie Hawkins dance is no different than a homecoming dance where guys ask girls to be their dates. This dance will allow girls to have the fun opportunity to get creative and ask a guy and maybe have the courage to ask their secret crush. This, however, does not mean students cannot come in groups, or if students are single, having a date is optional.

“We have hired a DJ who will be lots of fun,” Tyner said. “We will have a photo booth as an opportunity for students to have pics taken and take home a souvenir. There is always lots of energy and seeing everyone dressed up is so special.”
