According to the World Health Organization, universal health coverage means that all people have access to the health services they need, when and where they need them, without financial hardship. It includes the full range of essential health services from health promotions to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care.

According to The World Bank, if the trends the United States currently has pertaining to health coverage continues, up to five billion people will still be unable to access health care in 2030. The current flawed economic state our country has when it comes to health coverage is plummeting and will continue to be ineffective unless the people of America take a stand to make healthcare overall affordable. It should not be a luxury to be able to have dental coverage after retirement, or to be able to afford a hospital stay to birth a child

World Bank Blogs estimates nearly one billion individuals live with a mental health disorder. In low-income countries, more than 75% of people with the disorder do not receive treatment. This is due to the failed coverage Americans receive.

To add to that, the Department for Professional Employees (DPE) states the United States does not have a uniform health system, has no universal health care coverage, and only recently enacted legislation mandating healthcare coverage for almost everyone rather than operating a national health service, a single-payer national health insurance system, or a multi-payer universal health insurance fund. This affirms the United States does not make healthcare affordable to all, but merely the wealthy of the population. Americans with below-average incomes are much more likely than their counterparts in other countries to report not visiting a physician when sick, getting a recommended test, treatment, or follow-up care, filling a prescription, or seeing a dentist.

Therefore, the United States Congress should find a way to implement a universal healthcare system for the majority of its citizens.
