Ashley Fortune, art teacher, is forming a group this spring called the “Cardinal Crew,” which will service new students beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. The deadline to apply is May 13.

“We are looking for outgoing, friendly, responsible students to help out!” Fortune said. “Every year Melissa High School has the privilege of enrolling students from around the world. Many of these students need help finding their way around, getting logged onto Schoology and their email, meeting others, learning the general rules of the school, etc. This system will help build friendships and give someone they can turn to for support.”

Those who are chosen will be assigned students throughout the year. They will be responsible for getting them oriented to the school with weekly to biweekly checks to go over materials.

Requirements for application are the following:

  • Students must be a sophomore, junior, or senior at the beginning of the next school year (2022-2023).
  • Students must have no disciplinary action such as ISS, suspension, DAEP, etc. (Having a D-hall for a tardy is acceptable.)
  • Students must have passed all classes for each of the 9 weeks throughout the year.
  • Students must have a friendly, outgoing personality.
  • Students must have two teacher recommendations.

“If you are interested in helping new students get oriented and meet others, we would love to have you join the team,” Fortune said. “You will receive a club shirt to wear on the first day of the fall and spring semester as well as participate in various activities throughout the year.”

Students who are interested can pick up and turn in their applications by May 13 to Mrs. Fortune located in Room B126 in the MAC or the front office.

After applying, students should watch their emails for an invitation to meet with Mrs. Fortune.
