6 Steps to Mend a Broken Heart

Aubrey Grantham, Reporter

Step one: Listen to music

Listening to certain music can either get you in your “feels” or out. To begin, get out your “in the feels” playlist and cry to John Legend and Adele. After you get all your feels out, turn on some Destiny’s Child and own that you are a free woman. Below are a list of a few songs that will help you start your playlists.

  • Stay with me- Sam Smith
  • The heart wants what it wants- Selena Gomez
  • Say something- A Great Big World
  • Whiskey Lullaby- Brad Paisley
  • All of Me- John Legend
  • Make you feel my love- Adele

  • Independent Woman- Destiny’s Child
  • Run the world (girls)- Beyonce
  • Who says- Selena Gomez
  • This one’s for the girls- Martina McBride
  • Miss Independent- Kelly Clarkson

Step two: Delete them from your life

Go through all your photos and videos and say goodbye to the person who broke your heart. Keeping them on your phone will not help you move on. There is no reason for keeping the photos, the will not come back and are just taking up storage on your phone. Next, delete pictures off your social media then block them! Moving on will be easier if you don’t have the urge to see what they ate for breakfast that morning.

Step three: Surround yourself with friends

Pushing away the people who care about you will seem like the easiest way to cope. But, surrounding yourself with people who love and cherish you will bring your spirits up. Having a good time and getting your mind off the person will show you that you do not need them to make you happy.

Step four: Find a Distraction

There is no shame in watching Netflix or reading a book to get your mind off things. When getting tired of hanging out and just feel like being by yourself find a good series to watch on Netflix to binge on. I recommend Grey’s Anatomy, for it is emotional, funny and heartwarming. If you’re a book reader, cuddle in bed or sit outside and enjoy a book that lets you escape reality and join an adventure that is beyond your dreams.

Step five: Have “me time” and discover who you are

Go out and get your nails done or hair done for you and not for anyone else. Treat yourself with shopping and a nice dinner to enjoy life. Even go running or workout and be the best you can be for you and not for the other person. Discover the real you without being stuck with someone and own it.

Step six: Be happy

Know that there are many other opportunities to meet your soul mate. Finally, listen to Shoutout to My Ex by Little Mix and scream at the top of your lungs!
