The competition cheer team traveled to the Fort Worth Convention Center last week to compete in the UIL Spirit State Championships.

“We had a team of thirty-six, including the four males and six alternates,” Memory Groves, Junior Captain said. “They wanted to give it a try and they were an amazing part of our team.”

The team competed in the all-level coed division, which included 1A through 6A teams. The team placed in the top ten, receiving sixth place.

“We advanced to finals on Thursday, then competed Friday for the final placing. We were all very anxious to get the results,” Groves said.

The team practiced during their cheer class period and often after school. The team plans to attend next year’s competition, with first place as their goal.

“We practiced a lot. We used mega lunch to our advantage,” Groves said. “Also practicing before and after school, for up to about three hours a day, three times a week. I am looking forward to next year and all that the team will have to offer.”
