Melissa Theatre performs “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” for the elementary campuses on Dec. 8. They will have two public performances, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 5 p.m.

Cardinal Update

  • CONGRATULATIONS to the Robotics Team for earning the UIL Robotics State Runner-up Award in both the Robot Competition and the Overall Competition at the 2023 BEST Division Championship Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Dallas. Click to read more.
  • DECEMBER DRESS-UP DAYS: Students are encouraged to join the staff in getting into the holiday season by dressing up each day in December. See the graphic below for more details.
  • BAND & CHOIR CONCERT: The Band and Choir programs are having a joint holiday concert on Thursday, Dec. 14 starting at 7 p.m. in the Melissa Arts Center (MAC).
  • EARLY RELEASE: School will be dismissed for the two-week holiday break at 12:10 p.m. on Dec. 15. Click here to view the Bell Schedule.
  • SENIOR PORTRAITS: Many seniors have not logged into the CADY portal to select their yearbook pose yet. This needs to be done by Jan. 1. Some seniors have not scheduled an appointment yet with CADY to be photographed. All seniors MUST be photographed by CADY to be featured in the yearbook. For students wanting the yearbook pose only, there is no charge and CADY will provide all clothing items (formal wear and graduation gown). CADY will return to campus one LAST time on Jan. 10. The last date to be photographed at their Plano studio is Jan. 15.
  • SENIOR ADS: Yearbook tributes for graduating seniors are on sale now through Feb. 1, 2024. Build and purchase an ad online at YearbookOrderCenter.com.
  • SENIORS: According to House Bill 3, every senior must complete either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a state-mandated Opt Out form in order to graduate. Click here to learn more. MHS will host a FAFSA Night on Feb. 5 from 6-8 p.m. in the student union. Students needing an opt-out form must pick one up from their counselor’s office.
The Robotics Team wins two state runner-up awards at the 2023 BEST Division UIL State Robotics Championships Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Dallas. The team won silver medals for the robot category and the overall competition.

Miranda Sirota is a senior this year at Melissa High School. This is her third year writing for the Cardinal Connection. Miranda is also involved in other extracurriculars including Band, HOSA, NHS, academic UIL, and Book Club. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, cooking, and binge-watching her favorite TV shows. After graduating, Miranda plans to study Dental Hygiene to become a registered hygienist.

Korinne George is a junior this year at Melissa High School. This is her first year as a reporter for the Cardinal Connection. She is involved in Student Council, Theatre and Interact. After school, you can catch her at rehearsal, with her friends, or just relaxing at home. She loves to write and is so excited to become a reporter!
