Cardinal Update

  • BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS: Congratulations to the varsity girls basketball team for advancing to the playoffs! They will take on Lancaster for the Bi-District Title on Monday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Dallas Hillcrest HS. Click here to purchase tickets. (Dallas ISD has a clear bag policy.)
  • DRIVER’S ED: Students signed up for the February 15th driver’s ed class should bring their contract and deposit to Coach Williams on the first day of class. Students should not arrive before 6 a.m. and should meet Coach Williams at the middle door #12 of the main academic tower. Check email and text messages for instructions.
  • TEAM BEHIND THE TEAM AWARD: Our student athletic trainers (part of our CTE program) have been nominated for Dave Campbell’s North Texas Team Behind the Team Award. Click here to VOTE for our student trainers. Voting closes Feb. 19.
  • TELPAS: The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) will be administered on Feb. 21-23. Testing students should bring snacks and water on these days. For more information about TELPAS, click here.
  • 2024 MEF SCHOLARSHIP: The deadline for current seniors to apply for a Melissa Education Foundation (MEF) scholarship is Feb. 24. Click HERE to access the application and more information.
  • JUNIORS: Students in the Class of 2025 have the opportunity to attend a life-changing camp this summer: Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award). Camp RYLA provides an opportunity for students who exhibit exceptional leadership qualities to enhance those skills working together. Applications are due Feb. 28 to the Interact Club sponsor Mrs. Hare in A411.
  • ASVAB: MHS will host the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on March 7. The ASVAB is not only for military use, but may be used for career exploration as well. The ASVAB is a standardized test that reveals areas of strength and ability in science, math and language, while also helping to predict future academic and occupational success. The deadline to register is March 1. Click HERE to complete the Google Form registration.
  • LETTER JACKETS: Fittings for letter jackets will take place on Monday, March 25, during Mega Lunch. If students believe they qualify for a jacket, they should speak to their coach so the coach can submit their names.
  • SENIORS: Cap and gown photos are now available to view and purchase through CADY Photography. The deadline to order to receive the items before graduation is April 4.
  • IB PROGRAM: Launching in the Fall of 2025 with this year’s freshman class as Juniors, the IB Diploma Program (IBDP) unfolds over two transformative years. This advanced academic curriculum spans six subject areas: mathematics; history; physics or biology; English; Spanish; and the choice of computer science, visual arts or psychology.  In addition, students will complete components in Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE). The IBDP promises a holistic educational journey, cultivating well-rounded individuals prepared for the challenges in an ever-evolving world. Watch for more info coming soon!

Miranda Sirota is a senior this year at Melissa High School. This is her third year writing for the Cardinal Connection. Miranda is also involved in other extracurriculars including Band, HOSA, NHS, academic UIL, and Book Club. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, cooking, and binge-watching her favorite TV shows. After graduating, Miranda plans to study Dental Hygiene to become a registered hygienist.
