Winter Guard, under the leadership of new director Clayton Singletary, has had a successful competition season in 2024 with their “Fast Car” themed show.
The team was awarded as a 2024 Winter Guard International (WGI) Dallas Regional Finalist at the contest held Feb. 17-18. Competing in the Scholastic A Division preliminaries, the Melissa Winter Guard faced off against 48 local guards. Following the preliminaries, only 20 teams were chosen to progress to the finals round. The MHS Winter Guard finished in 12th place overall, even with tough competition from numerous local large schools.
To kick off the competition season, the Melissa Guard clinched first place at the North Texas Color Guard Association’s (NTCA) Contest held at Red Oak High School on Feb. 3. They competed again on March 2 at the NTCA Timber Creek Contest and finished in second place and competed a third time on March 22 at the NTCA Prosper Contest and claimed another first place victory.
