On August 22, three senior students were recognized at the Melissa Rotary Club meeting for their participation in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Training Camp. Senior Interact Club students, Layan Alwazzan, Rennice Kerebi, and Royal Sabal were chosen to receive the RYLA scholarships provided by the Melissa Rotary Club, which allowed these students to attend the leadership camp May 26-30, 2024.
All Melissa High School junior students were eligible to apply for RYLA Leadership camp. The high school Interact Club, with the help of their sponsor, Jill Hare, facilitated the application process and worked to set up interviews for these students with the Melissa Rotary Club. From there, the Melissa Rotary Club selected the three students and honored them with a scholarship and rides to and from the camp.
The RYLA Leadership Camp is an intensive program designed to develop young leaders through team-building exercises, workshops, and challenges. Participants enhance their communication and leadership skills while connecting with peers and mentors. The camp fosters personal growth and leaves attendees empowered to make a positive impact in their communities.
During the Melissa Rotary meeting, the students delivered a presentation, sharing their experiences at the RYLA Leadership Training Camp and expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary members for making their attendance possible. These students represent the core values that Melissa ISD instills in its students. The future is bright for these young leaders!
