The novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 hit hard, canceling and closing many events and stores. People have been instructed to stay in their homes but what about the ones of us who need to get their driver’s license or permit?

Gov. Abbott has shut down all nonessential businesses and that includes the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) causing many of us to wait even longer after taking driver’s ed or having a permit for six months.

Some students have a difficult time getting to school or sporting events because they don’t have a ride. Now these students will have to wait even longer to get their licenses and will continue to have a difficult time getting around. Many of the students’ parents go to work before they leave for school, and they need their driver’s licence to get to school, if and when it reopens this spring.

However, if students still need to take driver’s ed during this remote instruction, then they could use this time to complete the class portion. Parkway Driving School is offering it online. Students can register at www.parkwaydriving.com. When school resumes, Coach Williams will schedule students’ driving portion to complete the course. Students should contact school receptionist Venus Malone via email with any questions or concerns.
