The curtains will rise, and the spotlights will shine as the actors of the Melissa theatre program will take the stage of the new Melissa Arts Center (or MAC, for short), March 18-20, to perform their masterpiece Curtains: The Musical. Tickets may be purchased online through the Melissa Schools website.

The cast and crew have been rehearsing for months now and can’t wait to perform in the new venue.

“Being able to walk through those doors triggered tears,” sophomore actress Stella Rose said. “It was such a beautiful sight. I could not be more grateful to watch myself and the program grow together.”

Curtains is a musical performance that features scenes from a Broadway play in honor of actors and actresses who have walked in the spotlight of a stage. Rose has a role as an actress in the pursuit of a western girl. She also plays a male stagehand and a mermaid, which challenges her to study different reactions and personalities.

“Director and teacher Megan Moore has helped not just me, but our entire theatre program to learn how to embrace all the characters and their unique traits,” Rose said. “This program as a whole has impacted me as a person and as a growing actress because I get to be surrounded by gifted actors and grow in front of my school’s eyes.”

Rose is not the only actress that has been impacted by being part of the cast. Both young actors and mentors are main parts of the production. Mentors Kyle Brenner, technical theatre director, and Megan Moore, director, guide the young actors to victory.

MHS is more than proud of our theatre arts program and cannot wait to see what else is behind the “curtains” in the drama world.
